How it works

How It Works

What happens at each stage, what we do with your information, and what we do not do. Written to be read rather than skimmed past.

The process

Four steps, and you control every one

Nothing happens automatically. You decide whether to ask for attorney assistance, and you can stop at any point.

  1. Step 1

    Tell us what happened

A short set of questions about the accident, injuries, insurance and timing. One decision per screen, and you can stop at any point.

  2. Step 2

    Review the relevant next steps

We show you the guidance that matches your answers, including the deadlines and documentation that usually matter in California.

  3. Step 3

Request attorney assistance, if you want it

Entirely optional. You can take the information and stop there, or ask to be connected with an independent attorney.

  4. Step 4

    Independent attorney review

Where a participating attorney is available and the matter is appropriate, they decide independently whether to review or accept it. No attorney is obliged to do either.

Being clear

What this service is, and what it is not

These are the things most easily misunderstood about a service like this, so they are stated here rather than in the small print.

We are not a law firm

We publish information and, if you ask us to, we pass your details to an independent attorney. We do not give legal advice, we do not represent anyone, and nothing on this site creates an attorney-client relationship.

Nothing is automatic

Completing the Case Check does not send your details to an attorney. That only happens if you separately choose it on the final question, and you can complete the whole thing without doing so.

No attorney is obliged to take your matter

Where a participating attorney is available and the matter appears appropriate, they decide independently whether to review or accept it. We cannot promise that any attorney will look at your situation, and no outcome is ever promised.

How we are paid

This site is free to use. Services like this are generally funded by arrangements with participating attorneys. We set out our current arrangement in full on the About page rather than leaving you to guess.

Questions about the process

Not sure what applies to your situation?

Answer a few questions and see the guidance that matches what actually happened. It is free, there is no obligation, and you can stop at any point.
